Dead Island 2 will arrive on “another platform” in the next year

Dead Island 2 had been cooking in the oven for many years, with the much-anticipated sequel being handed off to multiple studios over the course of its development. Despite these setbacks, Dead Island 2 finally launched in April to positive reviews and a great deal of sales success. Currently available on PlayStation, Xbox and PC, it has now been revealed that the game will “release on another platform that will also drive multiple sales” in the next year.

As reported and transcribed by VGC, Embracer Group CEO Lars Wingefors spoke on the sales of Dead island 2 during the holding company’s most recent Quarterly Earnings call, saying:

“I think Dead Island had a really strong release window, then we have been seeing more normal performance, according to expectations. What we now expect obviously is promotions, but primarily the addition of new content coming through, so there is a significant amount of content coming through for the game in the year, that would improve the sales of the base game as well.”

Most interestingly, the CEO teased that the game will be coming to another platform soon, saying “looking a year ahead, we would have a release on another platform that will also drive multiple sales.”

For context, Dead Island 2 released earlier this year on PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC via the Epic Games Store. This means that there are very few gaming platforms left which the title could come out on.

It is possible that Wingefors is referring to a Steam release for the game. Alternatively, with Switch 2 rumours beginning to heat up, the game could be set to come to Nintendo’s next-generation console. We will have to wait and see.

KitGuru says: Do you think he is talking about Steam or the Switch 2? Or could Wingefors even be referring to an original Switch release? Let us know your thoughts down below.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
