Microsoft is reportedly developing Windows 12-optimised Arm chips

Microsoft stated in the past that Windows 10 would be its last OS. However, with Windows 11, that idea was thrown away, opening the path to new Windows versions. Apparently, Microsoft is already developing the next one, which is reportedly releasing in late 2024. Moreover, the company is also working on an Arm-based chip to rival the Apple M-series SoCs.

As per WindowsLatest, Microsoft is reportedly working on new ARM chips in collaboration with its partners and its “Silicon team” to challenge Apple's M-series SoCs. That's according to the description of some job listings opened by the company, which include positions such as Principal System on Chip (SoC) Silicon Architect, Senior Physical Design Verification Engineer, Principal Design Engineer, and Sr Silicon Power Integrity CAD Manager.

These moves could be seen as part of Microsoft's efforts to compete with Apple in the semiconductor space. Combining these new chips with the upcoming Windows 12 operating system, which is expected to be optimised to Silicon-ARM architecture, could significantly enhance the performance and efficiency of Microsoft's devices.

Unfortunately, we'll have to wait until late 2024 to see if this is all true.

KitGuru says: If true, then the next generation of Surface devices could be very interesting.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
