May’s Games with Gold includes Star Wars Episode I Racer

Ever since Microsoft debuted its Xbox Game Pass subscription service we have seen the console manufacturer’s legacy Xbox Live Gold fall somewhat out of relevancy. Despite this, Xbox Live Gold and its Games with Gold program remains – though with a noticeable decrease in the quality of its offerings. Fortunately, May’s free Games with Gold titles have now been announced and seem to be resonating with fans.

Making the announcement on the Xbox Blog, Dan Hickey, the Marketing Program Manager at Xbox said “Explore two completely different worlds and vibes this May in Games with Gold! On Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, start the month off by rocketing through Star Wars Episode I Racer, and then midmonth slow everything down for the calming beauty of Hoa.”

As mentioned, the two free games for the Month of May are Star Wars Episode I Racer (available to claim from the 1st of May until the 31st) and Hoa (available from the 16th of May until the 15th of June).

For the first time in months, fans seem to be somewhat excited for this offering – in particular for Star Wars Episode I Racer, with the game having amassed a following over the course of its decades long existence. That said, Star Wars Racer did initially release all the way back in 1999 and so it is not exactly a mindblowing addition to the service.

For comparison’s sake, PlayStation Plus’ Essential tier for the month of May includes 3 cross-generational titles – Grid Legends; Chivalry 2; and Descenders – all of which include bespoke PS5 versions.

With Xbox Live Gold costing subscribers just as much as PS Plus Essential, hopefully Microsoft opts to either revamp the service sooner rather than later – or alternatively shut down the mostly redundant service as a whole.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
