CES 2023: Acer teams up with BIWIN for new Predator GM7 NVMe SSD

We got our first look at an Acer-branded SSD back at the end of 2021, with the company partnering with BIWIN to launch a new range of storage products. Now at CES 2023, the new Predator GM7 NVMe SSD has been announced, targeting the budget audience without compromising on performance.

We know the SSD market is fiercely competitive, but Acer is hoping to make a dent with the new GM7. With pricing set at under $90 for a 1TB NVMe drive, the secret here is the DRAMless design which allows the drive to be so cost effective.

That's all without compromising on performance, as we saw the GM7 operating with write speeds in the 6.5GBs region, and writes around 6GBs. Even without a heatsink, we saw temperatures of the drive in the mid-40C range, not bad at all considering we saw it pull 5.67W of power.

In terms of specs, we were told the GM7 is set to use the Maxio MAP1602 controller, with YMTC 232-layer 3D NAND. However, the exact specs may have to be adjusted in the US as a result of the US-China trade war, so stay tuned for exact details later down the line.

There will be a 512GB, 1TB and 2TB model, with pricing starting at $49.90 for the 512GB, and going up to $159.99 for the 2TB flagship.

KitGuru says: If you're in the market for a new NVMe SSD that won't break the bank, the Predator GM7 looks like it could be very good indeed.
