Players have spent an average of 40 hours in Starfield

Despite years of build-up and hype, Starfield’s launch ended up being one of the most controversial of the year, with fans and critics alike taking the time to discuss the merits and failings of Bethesda Game Studios’ approach to game development. Still, the RPG has been enjoyed by millions, and so in celebration the team have released a lengthy infographic featuring all sorts of stats while teasing future content.

Taking to their blog, Bethesda Game Studios celebrated Starfield’s current success, saying “It’s coming up on the end of the year, and we want to thank all our players for joining us for the incredible launch of Starfield. With 13 million players since September, this has been the biggest launch in our history. Your support of this new adventure has meant everything to us.”

With that, the team shared a whole bunch of interesting stats, including but not limited to an updated total player count (13 million) and the fact that on average each player has explored the universe of Starfield for 40 hours. The full infographic can be seen below, but more excitingly, BGS shared their 2024 plans for Starfield, saying:

“First, we’re targeting updates roughly every six weeks starting in February. These updates will include everything from quality-of-life improvements to content and feature updates”. Detailing these updates. The team continued, “We'll be adding new ways to travel and you’ll now be able to access city maps while exploring the major cities. For those of you who love ship building, we'll also be expanding on ship customization with ship decorations, new ship building options, and more.”

Other notable changes and additions coming in 2024 include allowing you to “easily customize carry capacity, cargo access distance, ship damage, vendor credits, how you suffer afflictions, new survival mechanics, and more” alongside the introduction of official mod support.

Last but not least, the team teased that they are currently working on ‘Shattered Space’ – Starfield’s first major expansion. While perhaps not the smoothest launch, it will be interesting to see how the perception of Starfield changes once all these updates have gone live.

KitGuru Games: Corporate nonsense has put Helldivers 2 in jeopardy as game removed from over 170 countries

It tends to take a lot for gamers to 'forgive' a studio after messing up a launch, for instance CD Projekt Red had to spend three additional years developing Cyberpunk 2077 before many were willing to give the game another shot. In the case of Helldivers 2, despite the game having some rough server issues at launch, the game turned out to be so good that many players simply waited things out, without leaving a trail of negative reviews. Now, a case of incredibly poor communication and a poorly thought-out plan from the game's publisher, Sony, has put Helldivers 2 in jeopardy, with the game being removed from over 170 countries.
