New Radeon R780M iGPU benchmark shows it matching the Radeon RX 5500M

The Radeon 780M iGPU is set to debut in new Ryzen 7000 series laptop processors, but we still don't entirely know what to expect in terms of performance. That is now starting to change through benchmark leaks, the first of which shows the Radeon R780M pumping out similar performance to AMD's RX 5500M discrete GPU. 

According to the Geekbench entry spotted by Wccftech, the RDNA 3-based AMD Radeon 780M can pack quite the punch for an iGPU. The GPU was tested on the Geekbench OpenCL benchmark on a system featuring an 8C/16T Ryzen 7 7840HS with 32GB of memory running Windows 11 Pro. The iGPU has 12 Compute Units and a maximum clock frequency of 2.7GHz (200MHz less than initially expected).

With a score of 36,757 points, this iGPU is no slouch. To give you a point of comparison, it performs roughly the same as Radeon RX 5500M. Moreover, it outperforms the Nvidia MX550, GTX 1650 Max-Q, and Radeon RX 470.

Based on the Geekbench scores alone, the Radeon 780M should be about 25% faster than its predecessor. The AMD Ryzen 7040HS series APUs are expected to be available in new laptops within the next few weeks.

KitGuru says: If the Radeon 780M iGPU can translate this score into real-world performance, Nvidia may need to beef up its entry-level laptop GPUs.
