IO Interactive unveils upcoming fantasy game

IO Interactive has been independent for a few years now and is rapidly expanding to take on additional projects. We know that a James Bond game is in the works, but IO also has a new studio set up in Barcelona working on a secret project – a new fantasy game.

While IOI's fantasy project was leaked back in 2021, the studio had not confirmed its existence until today. After what seems to be more than a year of planning, IO is now recruiting for Project Fantasy, with a ton of positions open for everything from design and animation to producers, programmers, artists and online network experts.

The image above is the first concept art released for the game. It doesn't give away much, but it does drive home that this is a fantasy game, so we'll see plenty of magic, interesting creatures and different races. The job listings also point to this being an online multiplayer or co-op game, rather than a single-player title.

Previously, sources have claimed that this game was being worked on in partnership with Xbox. That might still be true, but nothing on the Project Fantasy page, or the job listings, confirms that.

KitGuru Says: IO Interactive has stayed busy since going independent. Not only have we seen continued Hitman updates, but the studio has expanded to take on more projects, including an upcoming James Bond game, Project Fantasy, and another unannounced project is also in the works, as shown by IO's job listings.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
