Ex-Titanfall and COD Devs open new Studio ‘Wildlight Entertainment’

We have increasingly seen video game developers moving away from major publishers in order to go independent and create their own studios. Such is the case with Wildlight Entertainment – a brand new indie studio formed by a plethora of ex-Infinity Ward and Respawn Entertainement developers.

Taking to Twitter, Wildlight Entertainment was officially announced, with the team saying “Hello, world! We're very excited today to announce our new game studio, Wildlight Entertainment. We've got big dreams of creating an epic shooter IP.”

The studio’s official website offers slightly more information on what Wildlight Entertainment is working on, with them explaining “We are a new, fully-funded entertainment studio hyper-focused on creating big, bold, original gaming universes of epic quality and scale. We’ve been quietly working on a new IP for some time, and while it’ll be a bit before we can say more, we’re beyond excited for what’s to come.”

As mentioned, the game in question will be a shooter of some kind, and considering the fact that Wildlight Entertainment’s current team hails primarily from Infinity Ward and Respawn Entertainment, it is safe to assume that they will have the chops necessary to create a splash in this rather oligopolised gaming genre.

While it will likely be quite some time before we get a look at what is in the works, the prospect of a new shooter franchise from ex-COD and Titanfall devs is exciting. Wildlight Entertainment is being headed by Chad Grenier whose repertoire stretches as far back as the very first Call of Duty game. The full team and their histories can be found HERE.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
