Insomniac’s Wolverine already shown booting on PS5 emulator

Insomniac’s Wolverine is one of the first major PS5 exclusives confirmed to be skipping PC following Sony’s shift away from single‑player PC ports, but that hasn’t stopped emulation developers from testing the game. Recently, Wolverine was shown booting on a PS5 emulator for the first time.

Jose Coixao shared footage of Wolverine running through an early PS5 emulator build, with the game successfully booting to its main menu. The menu renders at a single‑digit frame rate and is barely responsive, so the title is nowhere near playable, but getting a modern PS5 exclusive to boot at all is a meaningful step for emulation progress.

PS5 emulation tools have advanced quickly over the past year, with several projects now capable of booting select titles and running limited gameplay segments. As with most early emulation milestones, “bootable” does not imply “playable”, but it does show that emulator compatibility is improving.

Insomniac previously had a PC version of Wolverine in development before Sony scaled back its PC strategy to focus solely on multiplayer releases. With no plans to finish or release that build, emulation may end up being the only way PC‑only players are able to experience the game.

Sony will likely be watching PS5 emulation progress closely. Nintendo has already taken aggressive legal action against Switch emulators following widespread piracy issues, and seeing one of Sony’s biggest exclusives of the year booting on an emulator could prompt similar scrutiny around PS5 emulation projects.

KitGuru says: With Sony scaling back its PC output, do you think emulation will become the primary way PC‑only players experience future PlayStation exclusives?
