ID@Xbox director predicts huge industry changes over ‘the next couple of years’

Ever since Xbox head Phil Spencer stepped down from his role at Microsoft, the future of Xbox has been in flux, with new CEO Asha Sharma making some sweeping changes across the company. According to the director of the ID@Xbox program, “there's going to be more change happening in the next couple of years than the 25 years that got us here.”

During his appearance at the 2026 Digital Dragons Conference, the director for Microsoft’s ID@Xbox indie program ‘Guy Richards’ spoke on the future of the games industry, stating (as transcribed by GamesRadar+): “We believe there's going to be more change happening in the next couple of years than the 25 years that got us here.”

As it pertains to Xbox specifically, Richards added that the console maker is planning “a lot throughout the year” in celebration of the brand’s 25th anniversary, claiming that “there's lots of exciting things that we're doing throughout the summer as well that we'll be looking forward to share more about.”

ID@Xbox 25 years

Though it would be folly for the director to state otherwise, Richards expressed confidence in the future of Xbox, claiming that these upcoming announcements are “less of a celebration of the past, but more about positioning Xbox for what comes next in the next 25 years.”

Whether the console maker will survive another 25 years is yet to be seen, but a lot is certainly happening with Xbox at the moment. Richards’ full statement can be found HERE.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
