EA says a ‘major’ game is releasing in Q1 2023, likely Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

We're a month into Q3 of the fiscal year and as a result, many companies are now releasing their earnings reports for the previous quarter and giving updates on upcoming products. EA is no different, teasing a ‘major IP' launch for early next year.

As part of EA's recent earnings call, the company confirmed to investors that it plans to release a new game under a ‘major IP' before the end of March 2023. Unfortunately, the company isn't confirming exactly what game it is referring to, but we already have a pretty good candidate in mind.

It has long been rumoured that Respawn's upcoming sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, is planned for an early 2023 release. EA was not referring to Dead Space Remake with its comments, which is coming out in January, and it also likely wasn't referring to Wild Hearts, as that is a brand new IP set in a genre that EA has not really explored before.

Chances are, when EA said ‘major IP', it was referring to Star Wars. During the call, EA's CEO, Andrew Wilson, also explained a little bit about changes the company has made to marketing, preferring to ramp up the hype for new games closer to their release dates, rather than having long and drawn-out marketing cycles.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was announced earlier this summer with a 2023 release date, but we still know very little about gameplay changes, story and of course, we do not yet have a final release date. Perhaps that will change at The Game Awards in December.

KitGuru Says: The next Star Wars Jedi game was already rumoured for a Q1 2023 launch. Hopefully, the project is on track to meet that, as we've seen many unfortunate delays over the last couple of years.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
