Horror game The Medium to get a TV show adaptation

The 2020s has seen the revival of the video game adaptation, with dozens of popular video game IPs being translated into other mediums. Speaking of mediums, Bloober Team’s psychological horror game ‘The Medium’ has now been announced to be getting its own TV show.

Making the announcement on their blogand translated by DeepL – the Polish studio revealed “Bloober Team has signed a cooperation agreement with Platige Image for the preparation, development and co-production of a series based on the Krakow studio's game, ‘The Medium.’ The team's work will be conducted under the creative supervision of Tomasz Baginski and Piotr Babieno.”

Speaking on the project, creative producer Tomek Baginski said “Combining the worlds of film and games is a huge yet exciting challenge. I'm happy to have the pleasure of working on a project like The Medium with such a fantastically talented team.”

Discussing the project, Bloober Team’s president Piotr Babieno claimed “Both the film and video game industries are close to my heart, and I am very happy that there is finally an opportunity to combine the two. My joy is even greater because two Polish companies are taking on the production and a TV series will be based on our game. The story we told in the game was appreciated by players, and now more people will be able to hear about it.”

Historically, adaptations of video games have been less-than-stellar. That being said, the past few years has seen a large number of shows and films released to both commercial and critical success, including but not limited to Sonic the Hedgehog; Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, The Witcher and others.

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
