Team Ninja announces PS5 exclusive ‘Rise of the Ronin’

Sony’s recent State of Play game showcase brought with it the announcement and unveiling of many new and interesting IP, not least of which is Rise of the Ronin: an action-RPG game from Team Ninja – the studio behind Nioh, Stranger of Paradise and Ninja Gaiden.

Making the announcement at the Sony State of Play (and elaborated upon further via the PlayStation Blog), Team Ninja’s Director and President Fumihiko Yasuda said:

“Here at Team Ninja, we are incredibly excited to introduce our very latest action RPG game which takes you on an epic and unfettered journey as a Ronin at the dawn of a new era in Japan. It was seven years ago when we first began this project. And since then, the development has progressed slowly and freely, much like the spirit of a Ronin. It is with great pleasure to finally bring this title to light, and we are filled with gratitude on being able to make this announcement with PlayStation who have supported us and this project throughout these many years.”

Launching exclusively on PS5, Rise of the Ronin is a combat focused open-world action RPG taking place at the end of the 300 year-long Edo Period (set in the 19th century). Looking to be the team’s most expansive title yet, the game offers a great deal of combat and traversal variety, with guns, swords and even human-sized kites being free to use.

As with the original Nioh, Rise of the Ronin has been a long time in development – and as with Nioh hopefully this game elevates Team Ninja into an even higher tier of studio in the eyes of fans.

Unfortunately, despite its long development, we will have to wait just a while longer, as Rise of the Ronin is planned for release in 2024.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
