EA has reportedly been pursuing a buyout

The games industry is going through a massive shake up at the moment, with studios changing hands left and right. One name we haven't heard much during acquisition talks is EA, but as it turns out, EA has been seeking a buyer for some time and has already held active discussions.

According to sources speaking with Puck, EA has been “persistent in pursuing a sale” and has been in talks with companies like Comcast, Disney, Apple and Amazon. One deal that gained traction would have seen EA merge with NBCUniversal to form a new company, but after several weeks of negotiations, talks have been put on hold due to disagreements over pricing and structure.

EA has also reportedly pursued Disney, in a merger that would have seen EA Sports tied in with ESPN in some way. However, Disney chose not to pursue this, presumably to reserve investment cash for pushing Disney+ over the next few years.

EA is said to be “primarily interested in a merger arrangement” that would allow current CEO, Andrew Wilson, to remain in charge of the company.

KitGuru Says: It sounds like EA hasn't had any merger discussions with any traditional gaming companies, so none of the main console makers, or other rival games publishers have been involved.
