Destiny 2: The Final Shape has officially been delayed

A couple of months ago, sources indicated that Bungie was delaying the release of Destiny 2: The Final Shape. Now, after spending some extra time farming pre-orders, the studio has finally confirmed the delay, pushing the game from February to the Summer months.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape is the expansion that Lightfall should have been, wrapping up the current Light v Dark saga and finally setting Guardians up against The Witness and explaining more about what the traveler is and its importance in this universe. The expansion was initially due to release in February 2024, exactly one year after Lightfall. However, wrapping up ten years of story telling is no easy feat and Bungie needs more time to get the new content ready. As a result, the expansion has now been pushed to the 4th of June 2024.

Bungie won't leave players with nothing to do in early 2024 though. This week, Season of the Wish kicks off, which will bridge some of the gap between Lightfall and the new expansion. Additionally in April, Bungie will kick off “Into the Light”, a two month long event that will “prepare Guardians for their jouney into The Traveller”.

Bungie has had some issues this year, with Lightfall underperforming and Destiny 2 losing a significant number of players, leading to a round of lay-offs at the studio. It has also been reported that Bungie's new game, Marathon, has slipped to 2025 after initially being planned for a 2024 release.
