Apacer and Zadak announce the first consumer PCIe 5.0 M.2 SSDs

The PCIe 5.0 storage era is upon us, with both Intel and AMD platforms set to support the new standard before the end of this year. At Computex this week, the first consumer PCIe 5.0 SSD was announced, promising speeds of up to 13,000 MB/s.

Apacer and its gaming-focused subsidiary, Zadak, are launching new PCIe 5.0 SSDs this year. Both models are basically the same, but with slightly different branding.

Both the Apacer AS2280F5 and Zadak TWSG5 are backwards-compatible with PCIe 4.0 interfaces, so you could get one before upgrading to a PCIe 5.0 platform. Additionally, they support the NVMe 2.0 standard, offering a 13,000 MB/s maximum read speed and 12,000 MB/s maximum write speed. That's pretty close to PCIe 5.0's theoretical maximum speed of 14,00MB/s.

The two SSDs come with a 5-year warranty. Pricing wasn't disclosed, but Apacer stated they will become available later this year, just in time for AMD Ryzen 7000 series and Intel Raptor Lake chips.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
