The next Tomb Raider game is in the works, and it’ll use Unreal Engine 5

Over the course of 2021, there were several indications that Crystal Dynamics has begun pre-production on the next major Tomb Raider game. Today, the studio has officially confirmed this, announcing that a new Tomb Raider game is in development using Unreal Engine 5.

A few studios have revealed plans to use Unreal Engine 5 for upcoming projects recently, including the likes of CD Projekt Red, The Coalition, InXile, Haven, The Initiative and more. Crystal Dynamics now joins that growing list, with both the next Tomb Raider and Perfect Dark, which the studio is co-developing with Xbox Game Studios.

Not much has been revealed about the next Tomb Raider game at this stage. The game has been in pre-production for a little while, so the developers should have some ideas planned. Currently, Crystal Dynamics is hiring for several key positions as development ramps up.

The announcement was made alongside Epic Games' State of Unreal stream, during which, Unreal Engine 5 was made officially available to all developers after a lengthy early access testing period.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
