EA denies blaming low Battlefield 2042 sales on Halo Infinite

This week, sources from within EA speaking with the press claimed that the publisher recently blamed low Battlefield 2042 launch sales on the early release of Halo Infinite multiplayer. While we weren't expecting EA to respond at all, it seems the amount of coverage this story got ruffled some feathers, so EA has publicly denied the claims made in these reports. 

The comments were attributed to an EA executive speaking during a recent ‘Town Hall' meeting, during which Battlefield 2042's development and launch were discussed. While EA admitted that the game failed to meet expectations, there were also external factors reportedly cited, including the surprise early launch of Halo Infinite multiplayer, which led to more quality comparisons being made during the early days of Battlefield 2042.

Now in a statement to PC Gamer, EA VP, John Reseburg, denies the report and says it does not accurately capture the discussion and context around it:

“These stories are not accurately capturing the discussion and the context, which was an in-depth and very humble internal conversation about the recent Battlefield launch. It was about key learnings and actions we are taking, not blaming external factors.”

Unfortunately, EA did not respond to the viral petition currently doing the rounds, demanding that mass refunds be offered for Battlefield 2042. Currently, that petition sits at over 200,000 signatures.
