Genshin Impact studio fully embraces the Metaverse

In what feels like a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, the Metaverse and NFTs sprung out of seemingly knowhere, with almost every major publisher offering an opinion on the concept – and many embracing it. The latest studio to do so is MiHoYo, the developers of Genshin Impact, though in their case they are taking a few cues from Facebook/Meta.

Making the announcement on their new website, the MiHoYo team said “Today, we are excited to announce the official launch of our all-new, forward-thinking brand, HoYoverse. The brand aims to create and deliver an immersive virtual world experience to players worldwide through a variety of entertainment services.”

According to HoYoverse, “The launch of HoYoverse reflects our growing commitment to providing global audiences with immersive entertainment through high-quality, diverse content,” with HoYoverse’s CEO Haoyu Cai adding that “Our mission in establishing HoYoverse is to create a vast and content-driven virtual world that integrates games, anime, and other diverse types of entertainment, which will provide players with a high level of freedom and immersion.”

Cai concluded by saying “We will continue to focus on long-term operation strategies, consistent technical research, and innovation in a variety of fields, including artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and pipeline construction, to ensure that sufficient content is created to meet the expectations of players worldwide for a virtual world experience.”

Going from developing a burgeoning franchise in Genshin Impact to heading their own Metaverse is certainly a quick turn of events, especially as the definition of a Metaverse at this point is so confused as to be nearly pointless. Regardless, it will be interesting to see what becomes of this gamble in the long-run.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
