Horizon Forbidden West is the highest rated game of the year so far

Just a few days away from the release of the much-anticipated sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, reviews for Horizon Forbidden West have now officially gone live, revealing that Guerilla Game’s follow-up to 2017’s open world action-adventure title does almost everything that one could want from a sequel.

The review embargo for the upcoming Horizon Forbidden West has been lifted, and with a Metacritic score of 89 (based on 96 critic reviews), the game is seemingly a hit. While fans will have to wait until the 18th of February to get their hands on the game, critics seem to agree that Forbidden West successfully managed to improve almost every aspect of the game when compared to Zero Dawn.

Unfortunately, it appears to not be without issue, at least at launch. Critics have noted a number of visual bugs even with the day-one patch installed, though this is ultimately something which can be quickly remedied by developers Guerilla Games.

Perhaps more disappointing is the fact that sidequests – one of Zero Dawn’s biggest let downs – have reportedly been only somewhat improved with a mostly barebones story for each. Speaking of story, the mainline campaign is said to be positioned as if it were the second part of a trilogy: a little bit darker, a little bit edgier, and a lot of set up. Still, the general consensus is that Horizon Forbidden West is an excellent game and improves on the first entry in many ways – just perhaps not as much as critics had expected or hoped.

Of course, the best way to know whether Horizon Forbidden West is good is to play it yourself, which you can do as the game is launching this Friday.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
