Idris Elba to voice Knuckles in Sonic Movie sequel

While the film’s initial reveal was rife with controversy, the final release of the Sonic the Hedgehog film in 2020 was met with a surprising amount of enthusiasm from both dedicated fans and casual observers. Ahead of its sequel's release next year, it has now been revealed that Sonic's friend ‘Knuckles' will be voiced by Idris Elba.

Making the announcement on Twitter, English film star Idris Elba (known for his roles in Luther, Fast and Furious, The Suicide Squad and more) revealed that not only would Knuckles be making his debut in the upcoming sequel to the Sonic the Hedgehog film, but that Elba himself is voicing the character.

While leaked set photos revealed that Knuckles would be making an appearance in the film, Elba’s announcement serves as official confirmation. Previous rumours suggested that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson could be cast as Knuckles, and so it is interesting to see the role go to Idris Elba instead.

While we have yet to get an official trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the first film teased the appearance of Miles ‘Tails’ Prower – with Knuckles now completing the Team Sonic trio.

Sonic the Hedgehog was a surprise hit when it released in early 2020, bringing in just under $320 million and cementing the film as the beginning of a franchise. It will be interesting to see just how well the upcoming sequel performs when it releases in April 2022.
