Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion is being removed next year

With the last major expansion, Bungie introduced the Content Vault to Destiny 2 and immediately cycled out some older content to keep the game at a manageable size. It has been a while since anything in Destiny 2 has been vaulted, but with the new expansion coming up, Bungie has made the decision to retire older content from the Forsaken expansion. 

The Forsaken expansion, which introduced The Tangled Shore map, as well as a full campaign, is being removed from Destiny 2 and stored in the content vault in 2022, making room for new expansion ‘The Witch Queen'.

The Destiny 2 content vault is a method of cycling in and out older content from the game to keep it from getting too bloated and focusing players on content relevant to the current storyline of the game. With Beyond Light, we saw some of the earliest Destiny 2 missions removed and with The Witch Queen, Forsaken content will be taken out on a temporary basis. As always, Bungie can bring back a reworked strike or raid from the vault as part of a seasonal content update.

KitGuru Says: Initially, vaulting old content does sound like a bad idea, but Destiny can already feel very bloated content-wise and it can be confusing to figure out when to start when returning from a long break, or when you're a brand new player to the game. Forsaken missions will return eventually, but for now, it is time to make some room for newer missions.
