New MacBook Pro models reportedly enter mass production

Apple is expected to release new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros later this year. Coinciding with this, supply chain sources claim that both new laptops recently entered mass production, with up to 800,000 units being made per month leading up to November. 

The report from DigiTimes gives some extra credibility to the rumoured “late 2021” release date of these laptops. Besides the new MacBook Pros, it's also expected that Apple will announce the iPhone 13, the Apple Watch 7, and new AirPods later this year. 

The specifications of these new laptops are still unknown, but rumours claim Apple will be ditching Intel and AMD chips on its flagship laptops, just like it did with the standard MacBook. Instead, these new models should feature an improved Apple chip (maybe M1X or M2), most likely based on TSMC's N5 node.

Some other expected upgrades include a mini-LED display and a new design that removes the touch bar and makes improvements to the keyboard and trackpad. Both refreshed MacBook Pro models should be announced in October, with the first shipments going out in November.
