Sources claim Apple will release iPad with OLED display in 2022

Ever since Apple first began using OLED displays on the iPhone in 2017,  we've been hearing rumours about the first OLED display iPad. Apple went in a different direction with its 2021 iPad Pro refresh, adding a Mini-LED display. However, supply chain sources still claim that OLED equipped iPads are on the way.

Korean supply chain news outlet, The Elec, claims that Apple will launch an 10-inch OLED iPad in 2022. According to 9to5Mac, this will likely be part of an iPad Air refresh, rather than the iPad Pro.

It is claimed that in 2023, Apple will then bring OLED displays to the larger 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models. While the iPad Air would use a rigid OLED panel, the iPad Pro will use flexible OLED instead.

This news comes at an odd time, as Apple only just recently launched the 2021 iPad Pro, which upgraded the display to mini-LED. If this report is accurate, then Apple is using this as a stop-gap solution while OLED manufacturing continues to mature.

KitGuru Says: Perhaps Apple will finally bring OLED to the iPad next year, but these rumours have persisted for so long that they have become difficult to believe. Do you think we'll finally see an OLED iPad in 2022?
