Trademark renewal suggests new Splinter Cell game on the way

In recent months, fresh rumours have been building around a new Splinter Cell game. Over the summer, Ubisoft reportedly greenlit a new game in the series, which will apparently take the franchise in a new open world direction. We may have slight confirmation of this now from Ubisoft itself, as the publisher has updated the Splinter Cell trademark.

Back in October, we learned that Ubisoft has greenlit a new game in the Splinter Cell franchise after years of dormancy, following early playtests prior to E3 2021. At the time, it was believed that this new Splinter Cell would take inspiration from the recent Hitman trilogy, but more recent reports claim it will be a full open-world game, similar to Halo Infinite in structure.

Adding fuel to these recent rumours, Ubisoft has updated the Splinter Cell trademark. As reported by The Game Post, the update made a few tweaks to the trademark, removing references to multi-player and changing it to an “online computer game”.

Now it is worth noting that companies renew their trademarks all the time in order to avoid losing them, so it isn't always indicative of immediate plans for a new game or a new product. However, given the recent rumours, this update is somewhat promising.

KitGuru Says: Ubisoft hasn't announced anything officially yet, but things with Splinter Cell appear to be moving in the right direction. It could be a couple of years before the publisher is ready to show anything though.
