Microsoft had a $1.3 billion boost from gaming revenue last quarter

Ahead of the Xbox Game Studios showcase, Microsoft held its quarterly earnings report last night, covering the quarter that ended on June 30th. As it turns out, this was “a breakthrough quarter for gaming”, bringing a $1.3 billion boost to Microsoft.

Over the course of coronavirus lockdowns, many have turned to gaming. For Microsoft, this resulted in a 64 percent year-on-year boost in gaming revenue, with a large chunk of that coming from Xbox content and services. Microsoft has also previously boasted record levels of engagement on Xbox Live too.

Xbox hardware sales were up by 49 percent year-on-year, which is particularly surprising as the Xbox Series X is coming later this year. Either way though, Microsoft is happy, particularly after hitting a “new high of nearly 132 million monthly active users” during the last quarter.

Xbox has gained a lot of momentum over the last few months. Now we'll have to wait and see if that can be maintained for the rest of 2020.

KitGuru Says: Next-gen consoles are right around the corner, so we're still expecting big things from Microsoft in the months to come. Did any of you dive back into Xbox games over the last few months?
