Ever since Nintendo officially unveiled the Switch 2, one of the system’s many talking points has surrounded its use of a new Game-Key Card system which includes no data on the cartridge itself. Thanks to a recent leak, we have a greater idea of exactly how these cards will function – and it’s slightly better than expected.

As part of a recent leak at Arc System Works, a bunch of small and ancillary details have been revealed for Switch 2.

With regards to the Game-Key Cards, the leak claims that these 0GB cartridges should (hopefully) be usable no matter where in the world you are.

This is due to the fact that instead of downloading the game from the eShop, these Game-Key Cards can access a dedicated server which is independent of Nintendo’s digital store.

Though yet to be confirmed, this could allow for faster download speeds as well as a greater level of long-term support – assuming Nintendo chooses to keep these servers up beyond the life-cycle of the eShop itself.

While still a rather controversial addition, Switch 2’s Game-Key Cards are perhaps slightly less egregious than previously thought. It’s just a shame that developers/publishers have very few options when it comes to printing physical Switch 2 games.
