Google Meet premium will be free from early May

The last few months have seen an ever growing number of people relying on video meetings – either for work, learning from home or keeping in touch with their loved ones. Google's announcement will come as good news for those who are looking into different video conferencing options, as the company has made Google Meet free for everyone until Sept 30.

Starting in early May, Google's service will be available to everyone for free. Google says that the free service isn't available effective immediately, but will be rolled out over the upcoming weeks and that those who sign up for the Google Meet will be notified as soon as the service is ready.

Google says that all users will get the same features as business and education users – including simple scheduling, screen sharing, real-time captions and an expanded tiled view.

Google Meet has seen a surge in usage during the recent months. Google says that “since January, we’ve seen Meet’s peak daily usage grow by 30x. As of this month, Meet is hosting 3 billion minutes of video meetings and adding roughly 3 million new users every day. And as of last week, Meet’s daily meeting participants surpassed 100 million.”
