Apple, Ubisoft and ‘It’s Always Sunny’ writers join forces

Ubisoft has been trying to branch out into other areas of entertainment for a while. The first big push came with the Prince of Persia movie, then more recently, we had the Assassin's Creed movie. So far, jumping straight into blockbusters hasn't worked out, so we'll be seeing a TV show next, written and produced by two of the guys behind ‘It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia'.

Apple has green-lit the half-hour comedy, which will feature Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day as writers/producers. McElhenney will also play a lead role in the series. The show itself is set in a game studio and Ubisoft will be on-board to help produce.

This new TV show will be part of Apple's push to bring create more original content for its own streaming service. According to estimates, Apple is planning to spend around $1 billion on programming for its streaming service this year.

KitGuru Says: I'm a big fan of It's Always Sunny, so I'll be looking forward to this. It is also refreshing to see a game studio focussing on a lighter TV show, rather than an action-heavy summer blockbuster. We don't know when this new show will eventually air, but we'll hopefully get more updates soon.
