Intel rolls out Shared GPU Memory Override in Arc graphics driver

Intel has just rolled out a new feature in its latest graphics driver (32.0.101.6989) for Core Ultra systems, giving users direct control over how much system memory their integrated Arc GPU can use. The new “Shared GPU Memory Override” feature allows you to increase the iGPU's VRAM pool, which could be a game-changer for both memory-hungry games and local AI workloads.

According to the image shared by bobduffy (via VideoCardz), the new option appears as a simple slider control within the Intel Graphics Software. To apply the change, users simply need to install the latest driver and perform a system restart.

Much like AMD's similar “Variable Graphics Memory” option in the Ryzen AI systems, Intel is positioning this as a way to bridge the gap with discrete GPUs in VRAM-limited scenarios. For gamers, this could mean better performance in titles that demand more than the standard VRAM allocation. However, the more significant benefit might be for power users and developers. By allowing for a much larger memory pool, the feature enables bigger local AI models (LLMs) to run directly on the iGPU.

It's important to note, however, that simply allocating more VRAM is not a universal performance booster for gaming. Some games will use the extra memory to load higher-resolution textures, but not all will benefit from the added VRAM capacity.
