Nintendo dominates July games chart with help from Octopath Traveler

Nintendo had a very strong first year with the Nintendo Switch and it looks like the company is continuing that success well into 2018. The NPD Group released sales numbers for July this week, with Nintendo dominating the charts with some help from Square Enix's Octopath Traveler.

According to The NPD Group, the Nintendo Switch has five games in the top ten chart for July, with Octopath Traveler beating out the competition for the number one spot. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario Tennis Aces are all also in the top ten selling list.

Here is the full top ten for July, including digital and physical sales:

1. Octopath Traveler
2. Grand Theft Auto V
3. Mario Kart 8
4. Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy
5. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
6. Far Cry 5
7. Super Mario Odyssey
8. The Crew 2
9. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Siege
10. Mario Tennis Aces

Aside from Nintendo, the rest of the gaming industry is also doing well. July sales of games, hardware and accessories were up 14 percent year-on-year.
