Battlefield 6 will use AI bots to “backfill” lobbies when necessary

Ahead of the game’s much-anticipated launch next month, EA and DICE appear to be saying and doing all the correct things when it comes to Battlefield 6. Interestingly however, the developer has now revealed at least one element of BF6 which may cause some controversy – that being confirmation that the game will use AI bots to fill multiplayer lobbies as and when they are needed.

As reported by the Battlefield-focused Twitter page Battlefield Bulletin, DICE recently confirmed to press during its multiplayer event in Hong Kong that the upcoming FPS will use bots to “backfill” its lobbies when the situation requires such.

Offering more on this decision, DICE claimed that they hope to “allow as many players as possible to play at the same time” – meaning AI bots should only be used when absolutely necessary.

Though not confirmed, the system should operate similarly to Battlefield 2042, meaning the bots are replaced by real players as they go online.

AI bots in online games have been a somewhat divisive talking point for years now, especially amongst competitive multiplayer FPS titles. How exactly these bots will be implemented, we’ll have to wait and see. That said, it seems at the very least that DICE isn’t going for a COD-styled BR Casual mode primarily composed of bots.

Plus, assuming the game is as popular as they hope, Battlefield 6 shouldn’t need to use bots to fill servers.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
