Mortal Kombat 11 development comes to an end as studio shifts to new game

Mortal Kombat 11 has been receiving updates since launch in 2019, but after two years, the Aftermath DLC, and 12 additional characters, the developers are ending work on the game. Moving forward, NetherRealm Studios will be focusing its resources on its next game.

The news was shared by the official Mortal Kombat Twitter account, confirming that support for the fighting game is coming to an end. So, we won't be receiving any more DLCs, characters, or any other content for Mortal Kombat 11.

The tweet also brought good news, as the studio will now focus on its new project. This new project hasn't been announced yet, but there's a good chance it will be a third Injustice game. In the last decade, NetherRealm has been launching Mortal Kombat and Injustice games alternately, and with Mortal Kombat 11 coming to a close, a new Injustice game is plausible.

Mortal Kombat 11 is available for Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The game received generally good reviews, as seen by the 82 Metascore. Late last year, it was re-released as Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate featuring all characters, the Aftermath DLC, extra content, and PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as playable platforms.

KitGuru says: Mortal Kombat is mostly known for its visceral combat, especially the Fatalities. On the other hand, Injustice games take a more clean approach but still feature dark themes. Which fighting game series do you prefer?
