The Crew 2’s offline mode is finally available

While Ubisoft’s The Crew series served as a solid open-world racer, the franchise received a ton of backlash when it was announced that the first entry would no longer be playable due to its always-online requirement. In the wake of this outcry, Ubisoft reneged on their decision, confirming that The Crew 2 and Motorfest would be updated with proper offline support. After months of waiting, The Crew 2’s offline mode is finally here.

Making the announcement on their blog, the team at Ubisoft Ivory Tower officially unveiled what they are calling ‘Hybrid Mode’ – explaining it as follows:

“With this update, players can now switch between the original online experience of The Crew 2 and a brand-new offline mode, letting you enjoy the game even without an internet connection. This represents a major milestone in our ongoing commitment to ensuring long-term access to The Crew 2 for all players.”

While a much-appreciated update, the offline mode does have some limitations, namely:

• No Crew Credit purchases
• No LIVE Summits
• No multiplayer content (obviously)
• No user-generated content
• Certain Trophies/Achievements may not be unlockable

While The Crew 2 should have always included support for offline play, it is encouraging none-the-less to see Ubisoft actually retool the game in order to ensure its long-term playability. Hopefully more developers follow suit.
