MSI reveals new MAG321QR-QD and G321Q gaming monitors

MSI introduced a fair few monitors at CES 2023, but there are already more coming. The company has just introduced the MAG321QR-QD, an IPS gaming monitor that takes advantage of quantum dot technology, as well as a cut-down version, dubbed the G321Q.

Packing a 32-inch IPS panel with Quantum Dot tech, the MAG321QR-QD offers a QHD resolution, 170Hz refresh rate and a 1ms response time (MPRT). As a VESA DisplayHDR 400-certified monitor, its brightness can peak up to 400nits (350nits typical), while the contrast ratio is set at 1200:1. That allows the monitor to cover 140% of the sRGB colour gamut, as well as 98% of the AdobeRGB and 97% of the DCI-P3.

The G-Sync Compatible monitor comes with a HAS stand that allows you to swivel and tilt, but there's support for a VESA 100×100 monitor arm too. The I/O layout includes a DisplayPort 1.2a, two HDMI 2.0b ports, a USB-C interface with 15W power delivery, two USB-A 2.0 interfaces and another USB-B 2.0.

The G321Q shares some of the specs of the MAG321QR-QD, including the 32-inch panel with a 170Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, and QHD resolution. However, this one doesn't feature Quantum Dot tech, and a lower 300nits of typical brightness. As such, colour space coverage is inferior (123% sRGB, 90% Adobe RGB, 93% DCI-P3), and it's not VESA DisplayHDR 400-certified. The contrast ratio is also 1200:1.

Another big difference is the rather limited stand, which only allows you to tilt the monitor. Fortunately, support for VESA 100×100 will allow you to drastically improve ergonomics using a compatible monitor arm. Lastly, the I/O is also cut down as the monitor only offers a DisplayPort 1.2a and two HDMI 2.0b ports.

KitGuru says: Although the MAG321QR-QD looks to be the best of the two, it should also be the most expensive. Whether or not it's worth the extra, you'll have to wait for them to release to find out.
