Asus ROG Ally X specs leak

The specifications for the ROG Ally X have finally been revealed, ending the speculation. Even if not official, a recent leak shows that the upcoming handheld will retain the same APU, screen, and aesthetics but will come in black.

The leak is from VideoCardz. In terms of design, adjustments have been made to accommodate the internal changes, including the new 80Wh battery. Furthermore, the upcoming model will feature 24GB of LPDDR5(X)-7500 memory, a significant upgrade from the 16GB of LPDDR5-6400 memory found in the 2023 model. Moreover, storage capacity has increased to 1TB.

Asus has also revealed that the new model will be 70 grams heavier (678g) and slightly thicker (36.9mm vs. 32.4mm). These changes are most likely related to the bigger battery. The ROG XG Mobile connector for external GPUs has also been replaced with USB4 Type-C, supporting DisplayPort 1.4 and Power Delivery 3.0. In terms of cooling, Asus has made the fan 23% smaller and the fins 50% thinner while still achieving a 10% increase in airflow. Additionally, the company boasts that the ROG Ally X will feature a “Precision D-Pad” certified for 5 million cycles.

On the other hand, the Ally X will pack the same Ryzen Z1 Extreme and 7-inch FHD screen as its predecessor. The official unveiling of the new Ally is set to take place at Computex. While pricing details are yet to be confirmed, it's believed it will be slightly more expensive than the original model.

KitGuru says: If you already have the ROG Ally or a similar console, the Ally X doesn't look like a worthwhile upgrade. However, the improved battery, connectivity and memory could justify the premium for new customers.
