noblechairs Epic Real Leather gaming chair review

Rating: 8.0.

We are back with another gaming chair review! This time around we are taking a look at the Epic Real Leather Gaming Chair from noblechairs. This is pitched as the first gaming chair in the world to use real leather but is it worth its considerable £450 asking price? Let's find out.

Noble Chair Main

We opted for the black version of this chair for today's review. However, this model also comes in a white/black/red design.

Features and Dimensions:

  • Recline and tilt.
  • Adjustable arm wrests.
  • Adjustable height.
  • real leather.
  • Lumbar support and head cushions.
  • Solid structure.
  • Two year warranty.
  • Overall height (incl. base): 1310 – 1410 mm
  • Width backrest (shoulder): 545 mm
  • Width backrest (lumbar): 295 mm
  • Width arm rests: 105 mm
  • Depth seat: 565 mm

Noble Box WM

As with most chairs, this one arrives in a big heavy box.

Noble Base WM Noble Back 2 WM

Once opened up you will find all of the main parts. First up is the base seat and the back rest. Elsewhere in the box you will also find the five-star foot base, wheels, the gas lift and some screws for assembly.

For this build, the instructions tell us to start off with the base seat. Turn it upside down so that it sits on the arm rests, align the gas lift with the screw holes and secure with the four screws provided.

From there, we want to grab the five star foot base, attach the wheels and the push the lift bar in to place. Then attach that to the base seat.

Noble Stool WM

At this point, most of the work is done. We have successfully assembled a stool, which wouldn't be the most comfortable thing to sit on for hours at a time, so the next step is to attach the back seat. However, before doing this, I would recommend taking a look at the holes on the back seat to ensure that there is no padding in the way to stop the screws from threading properly.

Noble Side Screws WM

The back of the chair may seem a tad bulky at first but with a little bit of careful positioning, I managed to align it with the metal brackets pretty easily. All of the holes on the side of the chair lined up properly and thanks to my earlier check, there was nothing there to block the screws from threading.

Now the chair is fully assembled! Some of you may remember that back when I reviewed the Vertagear SL4000 (review HERE) in November 2015, I encountered some quality control issues that made the whole building process harder than it needed to be. Fortunately, it looks like noblechairs has taken care in this area as the build was quick and easy.

Everything about this chair has been excellent so far. Not only was the build easy but once the whole thing is put together, you can really appreciate the design and materials used. I do worry that perhaps the embroidery on the chair could fray over time but that isn't something we can really assess right now within the time constraints of this review.

We have established that putting together this chair was a breeze and the materials used all certainly feel like they are top quality- but what is it like to sit on? There is no benchmark or specific test I can put a chair through to show you how good, or bad it is, so a lot of this is going to subjective- your opinion could differ from mine. With that disclaimer out of the way, let's get into it.

I have been sitting on this chair for a few weeks now and I have been quite happy with it. There are plenty of adjustments that can be made with the arm rests, which can be pushed forward or pulled back depending on how far away from your desk you like to sit. They can also rotate or click inwards closer to you if you would prefer.

However, I did find the arm rest adjustments to be a bit stiff, particularly while changing the height. This can make it difficult to line up each arm properly and make them level. That said, you should only really have to adjust the arm rest height once so it isn't the biggest problem in the world.

Aside from that though, once the arm rests are where you want them to be, they are quite comfortable to use and while they do look plastic, they have squishy tops that stop your elbows from feeling uncomfortable after extended periods.

Noble Chair Reclined

The back of the chair is capable of reclining, but it doesn't go as far back as other chairs. That said, you shouldn't really need your gaming chair to double as a bed.

Noble Chair Main

I am quite short, being only 5.5 ft, but still, I found the back of this chair to be just fine for my height, though there is plenty of extra room for someone taller. You get a really soft, felt covered head cushion with this chair, which I found myself using full-time. You get a slightly firmer lumbar support cushion too but I am not a huge fan of those so I left it off.

The back of this chair does curve slightly around you, which is nice and helps with posture. The back is quite wide too, so someone a bit broader than myself could fit comfortably in this chair. If you do want to check the dimensions of this chair to see if it would be a comfortable fit for you, then you can find those on the first page of this review.

A lot of standard, cheaper office chairs will use weak padding in the base seat, which is not great for long-term use as eventually it will flatten out and you will be left sitting on a pretty hard surface. This chair does not have that problem as it uses a denser foam that can support a lot more body weight without caving in at all. This is much better in the long run and will ensure that the chair stays comfortable for a lot longer.

That said, I would have liked the base seat of this chair to be a bit softer, as I personally found it difficult to sit on all day long. This is definitely something that will vary from person to person, after all, not everyone spends 12 hours at their desk like I do, so keep that context in mind.

Wrapping things up, the Epic Real Leather Gaming Chair from noblechairs is an excellent product (but could do with a more inventive name). If you are after a chair that is going to last a long time with premium build materials and a subtle design that would suit a gaming set up just as it would an office, then this may just be your best option. In-fact, right now it is the only gaming chair on the market to actually use real leather, which is worth considering.

However, these materials do bump the price up to be quite a bit higher than most of the competition.

If you spend a lot of time sitting at your desk, then investing in a decent chair is definitely something to seriously consider, particularly if you are worried about developing bad posture or back problems from hunching over.

You can buy the Epic Real Leather Gaming Chair, by noblechairs, from Overclockers UK for £439.99. If you like the design but want something a bit cheaper, then you can also find faux leather versions starting at £259.99.

Pros:

  • Comfortable for sensible periods of time.
  • Can support a lot of body weight.
  • A lot of adjustments can be made.
  • Easy to build.
  • Fantastic build materials.

Cons:

  • Arm rest adjustment system is a bit stiff.

KitGuru Says: The world's first real leather gaming chair has a lot to offer. It is expensive but certainly feels built to last and worth the cost.

  1. Only a two year warranty for a £439 chair? My £130 Ikea chair comes with a ten year warranty!

  2. I have a couple of questions… Is there anywhere (London) where you can try one out? I would also like to know if it is possible to buy replacement arm sections as I tend to wear mine out and it would be good to not have to replace the whole chair.

  3. Yes, but it still looks and is, an IKEA chair.

  4. That Witcher 3 picture in the background tho, that really makes you want to buy the chair. Nice one!
