Considering how much I enjoyed my time with the HyperX Cloud and Cloud II, my hopes were high for the Revolver. Fortunately, they were mostly matched, as it is a superb sounding headset for its price point, with a decent build quality and is comfortable to wear for hours at a time.

The sound quality is strong in games – be they virtual or otherwise – as well as music and movies, making this a very versatile piece of kit.

Of course, as with every product we review though, this one is not perfect and indeed features a couple of real annoyances that I hope HyperX corrects in a future version.

For starters, the fit was too loose. Although perfectly fine for sitting still or even bobbing your head a little, high-speed headbanging or playing in a frantic virtual reality environment can see it easily shake loose.

The biggest issue I had with the Cloud Revolver though is the resonance. The metal headband rings like a tuning fork when hit, and can even be heard ringing lightly if you shake your head violently. This is not something that you come across very often, but banging your head accidentally or readjusting the fit of the headset can leave you waiting for the metal ringing to dissipate.

This would not be as big a deal if it was a problem that also existed in the original Cloud headsets, but it doesn't. What was wrong with that headband design? As much as the elastic set up with the Revolver is a little easier in that you do not have to manually adjust its height, was that ever an issue for people before? I was never bothered by it.

The Cloud was the first headset I came across with a sturdy, metallic frame that eliminated all of the creaking that is present in so many other gaming headsets. It was a real shame to see that design grow worse with a new Cloud headset two years on.

As much as that was a problem though, it is hard to deny that the Revolver is a solid headset. It sounds great and you can wear it for hours at a time without it becoming uncomfortable. I probably would not recommend it for VR gaming though, as the loose fit means avoiding big movements is a must.

• Metal frame resonates far too loudly in your ears.
• Fit is too loose, headset can slip off when making quick movements.
• Difficult to recommend for VR gaming.
• Mic quality could be a little better.

KitGuru Says: The HyperX Cloud Revolver is a fantastic sounding gaming headset, with a comfortable fit and understated design. Its tuning-fork-like headband may prevent it from getting top marks, but for most situations it is not a major problem.
