Leak reveals full sales history for Insomniac Games

In what has unfortunately become one of the biggest ransomware attacks in recent memory here in the games industry, Insomniac Games have had a boatload of internal documents and information leaked. While we will not address a majority of it for obvious reasons, one interesting leak detailed complete sales stats for a majority of the studio’s titles.

As shared by ResertEra user ‘Smitch’, part of the recent leak has seen a document collating all of Insomniac Games’ previous works in a breakdown which includes total copies sold, development costs, royalty shares, profit and more.

Focusing on total sales, it is interesting to see the wide disparity between many of the games. The PS1 and PS2 eras seemed to have been rather lucrative for Insomniac, with their Spyro trilogy selling a total of 12 million copies. This level of success continued into the PS2 generation with the studio’s then-new Ratchet and Clank franchise proving to be a success and selling just shy of 14 million copies across its PS2 entries.

The PS3 generation saw a dip with their most successful game being Resistance 1 – selling 3.9 million copies. Most games released by Insomniac during this period would go on to shift around 1-2 million copies.

Despite being a cult hit, Sunset Overdrive only managed to sell 1.9 million copies across Xbox One and PC. While in-line with many of Insomniac’s previous games, the success of Marvel’s Spider-Man in 2018 elevated the studio to new heights – selling 10s of millions of copies and setting the new standard.

It will be interesting to see what the likes of Marvel’s Wolverine ends up selling – and whether Rift Apart will be able to match Ratchet & Clank 2016’s figures. The full list can be found HERE.
