Palworld officially launches on PlayStation…except in Japan

Palworld is one of the biggest breakout hits of 2024, with the monster collecting survival game breaking Steam records and selling over 15 million copies on PC alone in just a month. Despite being in the middle of a lawsuit from Nintendo, Palworld has now officially launched on PS5.

Announced during the recent State of Play, Palworld is finally coming to PS5 – in fact, it is live right now. Interestingly however, seemingly due to the aforementioned lawsuit, the game has not been made available in Japan, with the official Palworld Twitter account sharing the following:

“As announced in the official PlayStation ‘State of Play,’ the PS5 version of ‘Palworld’ was released today in 68 countries and regions around the world. The release date in Japan has not yet been decided. We apologize to everyone in Japan who was looking forward to it, but all of our staff will do our best to deliver it to PS5 users as soon as possible, so we hope you will wait for a little longer.”

While the PS5 release plans have clearly been in the works for months, it is interesting to see the game launch right in the middle of a massive lawsuit from one of the most litigious companies in the games industry.
