River City Girls 2 update adds 4-player online co-op

Late last year the side scrolling beat ‘em up River City Girls 2 finally released after much anticipation. Following a few technical and performance issues at launch, the game was updated with over 100 different fixes and changes. The team at WayForward were not done however, as a new update has brought it with an online 4-player co-op mode and more.

Making the announcement on their website, the team at WayForward said “We are thrilled to announce that a new free update is now available for River City Girls 2, adding online play to the co-op beat-’em-up’s 4-player mode on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. This is in addition to the existing up-to-4-player local co-op mode and the crossplay-enabled online 2-player mode available on all platforms, which includes Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.”

As mentioned, this is just the latest update to come to the game, with prior patches bringing with it a whole host of improvements – including but not limited to:

  • The animation rate and camera movement updated for smoother gameplay on all platforms, effectively displaying at 60 FPS on PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox, and Steam. Improvements could also be seen on Switch
  • New Game+ can be replayed again after defeating the final boss in New Game+ mode
  • Combos and juggles had been made more user-friendly
  • Provie can now perform air specials and air grabs from aerial light combos
  • Riki’s Guard Break now always dizzies enemies

Adding 4-player co-op online could not have been an easy task and so it is certainly a welcome surprise to say the least. Hopefully River City Girls 2 continues to get a bunch of surprise and welcome updates for years to come.
