Some studios are still struggling to secure Switch 2 dev kits

In the months leading up to and following the official launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, reports claimed that a great deal of game studios were struggling to get their hands on dev kits for the handheld hybrid, leading to a number of ports being delayed. While supply issues were said to have “largely been resolved” as of the beginning of this year, some smaller teams are still waiting for their kits.

Taking to BlueSky to inform their fans, studio D-CELL Games confirmed that their highly-praised anime-inspired rhythm adventure game ‘UNBEATABLE’ (which released late last year on PC, PS5 and Xbox) has been officially delayed on Nintendo Switch 2, writing: “Hey! This sucks. We're delaying the Switch 2 version a bit further out.”

Of course, delays are nothing new in this day and age, but according to the team the issue is unfortunately out of their hands, claiming that “the primary reason for this is, frankly, that accessing devkits for the platform has been difficult. Pretty much impossible, actually. As you might imagine, this causes a logistical problem in troubleshooting Switch 2 builds.”

The full statement, including how they are trying to circumvent this, can be found HERE. It seems however that D-CELL Games aren’t alone in this, adding that “NS2 devkits are hard to come by for everyone in the industry (besides, well, Nintendo). We aim to resolve this soon; hopefully our discussions with Nintendo will prove fruitful and we can move it forward quickly.”

Given the fact that Nintendo seems to be leaning rather heavily on 3rd-party support for the Switch 2, it is odd that more than a year and a half after the console’s official launch, studios are still struggling to get their hands on the dev kits despite actively trying to do so.

KitGuru says: Why do you think Switch 2 dev kits are so hard to come by? Is this simply Nintendo being Nintendo, or could there be more going on? Let us know your thoughts down below.
