Splinter Cell Remake gets new leaked details

While it was once one of the publisher’s biggest franchises, Ubisoft had seemingly all-but-forgotten about Sam Fisher and co. for the best part of a decade – up until 2021 when the long-rumoured Splinter Cell Remake was finally officially announced. While we have gotten very little in the way of new information since then, insiders have now come out to offer some early details on the project.

Taking to Twitter, known Ubisoft leaker RogueTX shared a variety of details regarding Ubisoft’s long-awaited Splinter Cell Remake. From gameplay mechanics to under-the-hood specifics, we now ‘know’ the following:

  • Is based on DX12 and will make use of the Snowdrop Engine (Star Wars Outlaws, The Division, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora)
  • Will expand the variety of non-lethal choices
  • Includes a light and darkness meter alongside the ability to shoot out lights
  • Features destructible environments
  • Equipment includes sticky camera and gas grenades
  • Enhanced movement with pipe slides and zip lines will be present

Remake

As mentioned, we’ve heard very little officially regarding the Splinter Cell remake, with the primary bits of news being the fact that the project lost its director twice since its announcement – with the most recent reports being that lead studio Ubisoft Toronto was hit with lay-offs earlier this year.

Splinter Cell as a series always felt ahead of its time, and so the notion of remaking the first game with today’s technology and hardware is enticing. That said, given the tumultuous nature of its development, who knows what will become of the remake.
