Overall we believe the Plantronics GameCom X40 is a very well rounded product that delivers on almost every level. The matte plastic finish gives the headset a sophisticated look and feel and should prove durable in the long run. Sound quality was also impressive for a headset in this price range.
We couldn't really find anything really wrong with the GameCom X40 except the lack of a RCA to 3.5mm adapter which would improve compatibility. Even if the adapter was included, though, the microphone function of the headset still wouldn't be usable on a PC as it uses a 2.5mm connection rather than a 3.5mm one. This makes us question whether it is worth forking out a few extra pounds and opting for something like the SteelSeries Spectrum 4XB which is compatible with everything from a PC to a Smartphone.
Possibly the most exciting feature of the Plantronics GameCom X40 is the price. It can be yours for the very reasonable price of £36 at Expansys which we think is outstanding value for money. At this price it is a few pounds cheaper than the Sharkoon X-Tatic SX that we reviewed a few weeks back and, in our opinion, the GameCom X40 is a superior product in pretty much every way.
