Amazon launched eBook subscription service in the UK

Amazon has officially launched its eBooks and audiobooks subscription service in the UK. The service is called ‘Kindle Unlimited' and allows customers to pay a monthly fee for unlimited access to a pre determined library.

In the UK, the service will cost £7.99 a month, Amazon Kindle EU Vice President, Jorrit Van der Meulen, gave a statement regarding the launch:

“With Kindle Unlimited, you never have to think twice about what book you want to read or listen to. With unlimited access to hundreds of thousands of titles, Kindle Unlimited offers by far the simplest and most cost-effective way to explore and discover eBooks and audiobooks together, and you can even switch from reading to listening without losing your place.”

“Our US customers have shown us how much they love the opportunity to discover new authors and genres, and now we're delighted to offer the same freedom to our customers in the UK.”

So far, the Kindle store contains around 650,000 books, many of which are supported by a new ‘read along' feature. The service launched in the US earlier this year for $9.99 a month. Since the service is expanding, its safe to assume that it is doing fairly well.

KitGuru Says: It seems subscription services are becoming rather popular thanks to the likes of Netflix. Do any of you guys ever read eBooks? Would you be interested in paying a monthly fee for unlimited access? I don't think I could read enough books in a month to really make this service worth it for me but I know plenty of people that would enjoy it.
