Nvidia teases new graphics cards in new cooler design video

Nvidia is continuing to build up to its big GeForce Special Event this week, this time with a new teaser. In a new video today, Nvidia engineers explain the “remarkable art and science” of modern graphics card design, going over all the steps that go into designing a new GPU and giving us a sneak peek at what to expect next week.

The video focuses on graphics card design and cooling. As the video goes on, we get a look at what is clearly a V-shaped PCB, the same one seen in RTX 3000 series leaks throughout this year. This video also confirms the new 12-pin power connector. Finally, towards the end of the video, we get a brief flash of what Nvidia's next Founder's Edition cooler looks like in its final form, including the added heatsink that sits in the V-shape cutout of the PCB.

Of course, next-gen RTX GPU teasers aren't the only aim of this video. There is also plenty of educational wisdom passed on from Nvidia's engineers, the same ones who design these new graphics cards each generation. Here are some of the bullet points:

  • Thermal: An airflow-optimized cooling solution, redesigned to overcome existing constraints and move more air through the system for maximum cooling efficiency.
  • Mechanical: A stronger mechanical structure, including a new low profile leaf spring that leaves room for a back cover.
  • Electrical: A compact electrical design, with a new 12-pin power connector that allows more space for components and cooling, and is compatible with 8-pin connectors in existing power supplies with an included adapter.
  • Product Design: A no-compromise, cohesive design that embraces the revolutionary thermal solution while beautifully harmonizing each element of the graphics card.

Nvidia will be hosting a GeForce Special Event on the 1st of September. During that event, we expect to see the announcement of new RTX 3000 series graphics cards.
