Shonen Jump parent company opens up game studio

Shueisha, the company behind Shonen Jump and publisher of some of the most famous and recognisable manga series in the world, is now setting up its own game development operations. Traditionally, Shueisha has licensed out its IP to other game studios and game publishers, but moving forward, the company will have its own major presence in the gaming industry.

As reported by Famitsu, Shueisha Games was established in February, and will develop and release games for consoles, PC and smartphones. The company is also interested in the board games market too.

Shueisha owns some of the biggest manga IP in the world, so the possibilities for future games are endless. This also may explain why Jump Force was pulled from sale, as the game rights for the IP involved were expiring and Shueisha was setting up its own games business, and thus chose not to renew the license with Bandai Namco.

For those who don't know, Shueisha publishes Shonen Jump and the other Jump magazines in Japan. The company has been responsible for major series like Dragon Ball, Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Demon Slayer, The Promised Neverland, Dr. Stone, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Hunter x Hunter, Yu Yu Hakusho, Black Clover, My Hero Academia and more.

KitGuru Says: With Bleach getting its final arc put into anime form, I would love to see a proper game based on the series after all these years. I would also love to see a proper 2D-fighter crossover game, moving away from Jump Force and closer to something like Dragon Ball FighterZ.
