Apple to launch first foldable iPhone in 2023

Earlier this year, we learned that Apple is internally testing two designs for a foldable iPhone, with a particular focus on the durability of the hinge. Now, new reports indicate that Apple's foldable iPhone will feature an 8-inch foldable display and will arrive in 2023.

Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo is back with a fresh round of early details on Apple's future plans. As reported by MacRumors, Kuo's latest investor note included some information on Apple's foldable iPhone.

“We forecast that Apple will likely launch a foldable ‌iPhone‌ with an 8-inch QHD+ flexible OLED display in 2023, with SDC as the exclusive display supplier and Samsung Foundry as the exclusive DDI foundry provider”, Kuo said. “Based on Apple's requested capacity plan, we predict that the foldable ‌iPhone‌ shipments will reach 15-20 million units in 2023.”

Aside from a flexible OLED display, the foldable iPhone will also utilise silver nanowire touch technology, which Apple already has some experience with, having used it in Homepod devices.

KitGuru Says: We're still a couple of years away from seeing Apple's attempt at a foldable phone. It'll be interesting to see what the competition looks like at that time, with Samsung having already worked out a lot of the issues that come with manufacturing a device like this.
