Notebooks expected to be in short supply by end of May

We've been feeling the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak for weeks now, and in Southeast Asia this has led to slowdowns in the supply chain and a decrease in the production of notebooks. The decreased supply, combined with an increase in demand, is predicted to lead to a supply shortage of notebooks before the end of May.

This isn't the first time certain hardware has been predicted to be in short supply as a result of COVID-19's impact on supply chains – back in February it was accurately reported that Nintendo Switch would suffer shortages. In the case of the Switch it still looks like it will take weeks – at best – before the product is easy to get hold of again.

According to DigiTimes Research, the production of notebooks has hit numerous roadblocks because of the restrictions in place across the countries of Southeast Asia – where most of the components for notebooks are made and put together. At the same time, people all over the world are now working and studying from home which has seen the demand for notebooks – as well as many online services – increase dramatically in the span of a few months.

It is still unknown what countries will be affected first and how long the potential supply shortages will last for.
