Final Fantasy 14: Evercold launches January 2027

Alongside this week's announcement of a Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy 14, Square Enix has also announced the game's next major expansion. The MMO's sixth expansion will launch in January 2027, kicking off a new story saga for players to explore.

During the Fan Festival this week, Final Fantasy 14 director and producer, Naoki Yoshida, confirmed Evercold as the next major expansion for the game. This expansion will bring a battle system overhaul, as well as new playmodes. Moving forward, certain jobs will only be playable in the new expansion's ‘evolved' battle mode, while all previous classes will remain playable as-is in Reborn mode.

There will be two new job classes added to the game with Evercold, a new Tank job and a new ranged DPS job. Alongside this, Square Enix is bumping the level cap from 100 to 110, introducing new cities and other map areas, new dungeons, a new series of raids, PvP updates and more.

There isn't an exact final release date for Final Fantasy 14 Evercold but it will be launching sometime in January. This summer, six months prior to the expansion, Final Fantasy 14 will also expand to another console platform – the Nintendo Switch 2.
